It was reported in Lianhe Zaobao that as many as 529 eateries in Singapore have closed down from February to April 2020, citing data provided by the Singapore Department of Statistics.
In the same article, the President of Restaurant Association of Singapore revealed that business revenue for many F&B outlets dropped by about 50% to 80%.
As dining in within restaurants and cafes in Singapore are not allowed during the “Circuit Breaker” and “Phase 1” periods, several F&B are finding it hard to sustain businesses.
Even as they have turned to takeaway and delivery modes of operation, that may not be enough.
There are a few versions of “closed down restaurants” circulating on WhatsApp. Note that some restaurant closures are not 100% confirmed yet, or that it is just a particular outlet which ended operations but not the entire group.
Here are many restaurants in Singapore that have already or going to say “Goodbye” (Note: Some closed before the “Circuit Breaker” period.)
7th Mile Seafood
Zi Char place at Toh Yi Drive (Bukit Timah) famous for its Crab Bee Hoon.
Antoinette
Antoinette known for its elegantly-crafted pastries and Parisian bistro favourites, will be ending operations on the 30th of June 2020.
BOTH the Penhas Road and Millenia Walk outlets will be closed, and their online stores will also cease operations.
This is indeed sad news for foodies who love their gorgeous cakes and desserts.
Belimbing Superstar
The sister restaurant of The Coconut Club, has suddenly announced its closure just after months of operations.
The restaurant serves up Peranakan food “chap chye peng” style. While it was slightly more expensive than what some diners would have expected, the food quality was good and service prompt. Peranakan cuisine does take a lot of time and effort to prepare.
During lunchtime then when I visited, it was on the empty side. Could be a mixture of reasons, from lack of awareness and perceived value.
Boufe Boutique Café
Boufe known for their brunch items and instagrammable cakes will be closing end of June 2020 due to the end of their lease.
In the meantime, they have teamed up with a group of chefs for a “Boufe Night Market” to deliver a variety of cuisine from 6pm to 9pm daily.

Breko Cafe
That familiar spot at Holland Village ended operations end of March 2020.
Chi Kinjo
Located at 29 Stanley Street, known for mini-chirashi bowl, maki, freshly sliced sashimi, and “crazy cheap” highballs.
China Club
Singapore’s members-only China Club will shut permanently after 19 years in operations, and was reported “suffering losses for a few years”. It will file for voluntary liquidation.
ChinaDoll

Coffee Break – Science Park
The trio siblings, Faye, Anna and Jack Sai got into the radar by being young hawkers selling sock-brewed coffee in Singapore, with the kopi drinks added with a flavoured twist.
The café at Science Park has ended operations. However, they still have a stall on Level 2 of Amoy Street and Hong Lim Food Centre.
DC Comics Super Heroes Café -Marina Bay Sands
DC Super Heroes Cafe in Marina Bay Sands has announced that it has closed for good and will not be back for “Phase 2”.
This is after close to 5 years of operations in Singapore.
The DC Super Heroes Café Takashimaya outlet will reopen on Friday 19 June. However, this cafe will soon transit to a new brand.
Dolly Underground
A KTV bar and club located at the basement of International Building (next to Thai Embassy).
Fabulous Baker Boy
(Okay, I really liked the cakes here.) Fabulous Baker Boy is a bakery cafe by Chef Juwanda Hashim, located at Fort Canning.
One of the reasons is due to its lease ending in July 2020. They were looking at somewhere else to move to, but with the uncertainty ahead, the reopening may not be in the near future.
Their last day of operation is on the 10th of July. Opening hours from 8:30am to 6pm (serving food till 5pm). Reservation is recommended as there is limited seating within the store for “Phase 2”.
Five Bar – Hitachi Tower
The outlet at Hitachi Tower Colley Quay, known for its $5 specials all-day-everyday.

The tech-enabled, multi-sensory grocer known for its Poofy Pancakes and Captain Snapper Fish and Chips was last reported was “closed temporary” and “considering a permanent shutdown”.
The landlord is also reported to be unwilling to extend the lease.
Hashida Sushi
Premium grade sushi to its diners, served luxuriously Omakase style.
Hashida Sushi first opened its door in Tokyo in 1966 helmed by Master Sushi Chef, Tokio Hashida. His son Kenjiro “Hatch” Hashida followed his father’s footsteps and brought the culinary venture to Singapore.
The renowned sushi restaurant used to be a Mandarin Gallery, but reopened at Mohamed Sultan Road in 2018. Unfortunately, its owner LifeBrandz has parted ways with Chef Kenjiro. Hashida may return with a different management.
High Steaks – Sembawang
Affordable Western food place located at Sembawang has ended operations 30 April.

Hops and Berries is one of the restaurant in ORTO (where the old Bottles Tree was).
Imperial Treasure Nan Bei Restaurant – Ngee Ann City
Imperial Treasure Nan Bei Restaurant 御寶南北小馆 at Ngee Ann City has ceased business operations from 8 June 2020.
This is one of the well-liked concepts of the Imperial Treasure Group, which offers an amalgamation of flavours from the best of Southern and Northern Chinese cuisine.
Inspirit House
At 3 Punggol Point Road #01-05, annouced that they are not continuing lease at The Punggol Settlement which will end August 2020. Can still WhatsApp +65 9645 8881 to make orders.
Japan Food Town
Japan Food Town was a popular (at least during opening period) one-stop place for foodies to experience authentic Japanese cuisine.
Some of its popular shops included Rang Mang Shokudo (fried chicken), Hokkaido Izakaya (Hokkaido produce), and Inaniwa Yosuke (udon).
Isetan Singapore had previously issued a notice to Japan Food Town Development for non-payment of certain sums under the tenancy agreement for its lease.
Jekyll & Hyde
Known for whimsical cocktails and affordable bottles, Jekyll & Hyde at 49 Tras Street is ending operations end of June 2020. The team is looking for a new space to move to.
Jamie’s Italian – VivoCity
Jamie’s Italian by famed celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has closed its VivoCity outlet due to conclusion of lease. The Orchard Road outlet at Forum remains operational for deliveries and takeaways.
Jok Jok Mor
The Thai eatery at Rangoon Road once attracted so long queues they had to turn people away during the initial days.
It specialised in Claypot Porridge, with a base of Tom Yum, See Ew Kao (Thai light soy sauce broth), or Mak Kum (distinctive zingy and refreshing broth).
Unfortunately, Claypot Porridge for takeaways and deliveries may not be sustainable in a long run.
Kuishin-Bo
Japanese buffer restaurant Kuishin-Bo has ended operations, after 19 years of operation.
Translated as “food connoisseur” in Japanese, Kuishin Bo is known to serve up over 200 varieties of buffet items, and was a popular destination place for Japanese food and seafood lovers.
If you have dined there before, you would recognise this catchy trademark announcement played out which is a signal for diners to head for the limited special food items.
“Dong Dong Dong… one, two, three… Kuishin Bo”. Will miss this.
La Cantina Venezia
Outlet at Changi Village Hotel, offers a variety of Italian food.
Lounge 7 at Dempsey Hill
Announced to be “closed till further notice”. Customers who have bottles at their premises are recommended to collect them.

Meats N Malts located at Tai Seng (BreadTalk IHQ building) has announced closure on the 2nd of June.
Their sister outlet The Drunken Poet remains opened for business.
Miss Chinatown
Modern Asian street food and local beers place housed in the carpark rooftop of People’s Park Complex.
MOF @ My Izakaya
MOF @ My Izakaya was quite in during many people’s secondary school days, serving up literally more than over a hundred Japanese dishes, from hotstone rice, sukiyaki, bento sets, Toji dishes and Japanese desserts.
Modesto’s
Modesto’s at Orchard Rendezvous Hotel will close down in June 2020 after 23 years in operations. The other outlet at The Elizabeth Hotel has ended operations in April.
The restaurant was known for its traditional Italian cuisine such as wood-fired pizzas and home-made pastas.
Nadai Fujisoba Ni-Hachi
Nadai Fujisoba Ni-Hachi, Japan’s number one soba restaurant, has closed its Singapore outlet at 100AM Mall Tanjong Pagar March 2020.
Fujisoba’s menu offered an extensive variety of soba, including Dry Maze Soba, Curry Nanban Soba, Hot Tempura Soba, Hot Tanuki Soba, Cold Soba, donburis and ala carte dishes.
The New Harbour Cafe & Bar
(Note: While the viral WhatsApp message stated that New Habour Cafe & Bar is located in Yishun, this is found at 116 Tanjong Pagar Road.) The casual Western food place is known for its Crackling Roast Pork, Fish & Chips, and Pork Chop dishes.
Noodle Place Restaurant
Noodle Place Restaurant located at Orchard Gateway known for serving authentic Hong Kong cuisine, has ended operations end of March. The restaurant has been around for 30 years (used to be located at Centreepoint), offering mainly Hong Kong style noodles and congee.
Oromo Coffee
Closed after almost 10 years in operations at Shaw Tower. Last day was on 31 March.
Out of the Cake Box
Out of the Cake Box which is known for their creative bakes will be ending operations 15th June 2020.
The unassuming cake shop Out of the Cake Box is located at 45 Telok Blangah Drive, and has been popular with residents nearby. One of the main reasons is because their rental lease is ending at the end month, and they intend to take a break first.
Owl Bistro
Serves items such as Fish & Chips, Rib Eye, Pork Chop, Pizzas and Pastas. Located at 20 Tanjong Pagar Road Singapore 088443.
Parallel – One Raffles Place
Parallel located at the basement of One Raffles Raffles served up a selection of açaí smoothie bowls and coffee. That outlet has closed.
While there is another kiosk at Raffles City basement, it won’t be carrying out operations in “Phase One” due to regulations.
Peppercorn
Halal F&B establishment at 30 Kandahar Street which serves up dishes inspired by street food scene in Beijing, Shanghai, and the Sichuan region.
Plentyfull – Millenia Walk
Plentyfull at Millenia Walk aimed to serve honest, hearty and homemade food, using the freshest ingredients.
Unfortunately, this outlet will be closing and its last day of operations will be 14 June 2020.
As their lease is up for renewal in July, and given the current pandemic and economic environment, the owners felt it is time to end this chapter.
However, they do intend to slowly re-focus and find a new home. Sister outlet Plentyfull Bakery & Deli at Great World is still in operations.
Pobo Gelato
Humble gelato cafe Pobo Gelato located on the ground level of West Coast Community Centre, has announced on their Instagram that they “have closed”.
The owner had put in a lot of effort into creating his own brand of gelato, insisting on churning out all flavours fresh himself. Oh well.
Rookery – Capital Tower
Rookery owned by formed DJ Daniel Ong will be closing its Capital Tower branch.
There are still two other outlets at Hong Leong Building and China Square.
Salt Grill & Sky Bar
Salt Grill & Sky Bar by Luke Mangan offered Modern Australian cuisine at the iconic ION Orchard. It has confirmed it is permanently closed.
SG Pho House
SG Pho House at North Bridge Road has closed. However, you can still show them some support by purchasing their products such as Salted Lemon ($20 for 1kg), Coffee Beans ($12 for 500g), Fried Lotus Seed ($10 for 250g) and Vietnamese Tea ($10).

Spice World Hotpot
Spice World Hotpot 香天下火锅 which captured attention during opening days for its Teddy Bear Mala Hotpot, with Wagyu Beef draped over barbie dolls (Lady Gaga style).
Months after opening, it continued to attract eyeballs for its “Bubble Tea Hotpot” with mango popping pears and Oreo cookies as toppings, but perhaps that drew more curiosity rather than actual walk-ins.
Some may link its closure to the COVID-19 scare, as hotpot restaurants in general took a beating when 10 members of a family in Hong Kong became infected after sharing the dish.
Stärker Group
The group with a chain of bistros is best known for German-style fresh beer, and hearty big-portioned eats such as Pork Knuckles, Baby Back Ribs, and Braised Lamb Shank.
It has announced its closure of all 7 outlets in Singapore on social media early June 2020.
Table Manners
Table Manners is a casual restaurant at Changi City Point which served affordable European fare, known for dishes such as TM Pork Ribs, Mushroom Swiss Burger, and classic Fish & Chips, all matched with a beautiful outdoor view.
It has ceased operations in April 2020, and is carrying out a clearance sale for its craft beers.
Tao Seafood Asia
TAO Seafood Asia at Asia Square has closed its doors from 30 May 2020.
The Chinese restaurant is known for its Chilli Crabs, Black Pepper Crabs and other wok-fried dishes.
Teochew City
Opened by local veteran actor Chen Shucheng, Teochew City along MacPherson Road has closed to cut losses.
Teafolia
Popular bubble tea and fruit tea shop Teafolia which has outlets at Bedok Mall and Northpoint City has ended operations.
They announced on instagram that they are “permanently closed” due to the “current economic situation”.
The Chop House
With a menu of steaks, burgers and pastas, The Chop House closed both the Vivocity and Katong outlets. It serves up a menu of Western favourites and casual gastro vibes with outdoor seating available.
The Green Ducklings
Known for unconventional food and cakes such as Smoked Salmon Cake, Unagi Sandwich, Century Egg Pasta, and Carrot Cake with Nacho Cheese, The Green Ducklings at Beach Road would end operations on the 28th of June.
The Reading Room Cafe Bar
Book cafe by day and bar by night, The Reading Room at Bt Pasoh is where people go for a relaxing time from the bustling Singapore.
They serve up classics such as Lobster Eggs Benedicts, Fluffy Homemade Pancakes, and Fish And Chips – fresh Halibut fish deep dried in Kronenbourg-Beer batter and served with handcut fries.
The last day of operations is on the 28th of June 2020 (Sun), and they operate from 11am to 11pm.
The Peel 1889
Located at myVillage in Serangoon, The Peel 1889 known for its Margherita pizzas, pasta and other Italian dishes will likely closed after the lease ends on July 15.
The Pelican
The Pelican at One Fullerton which has been around for 8 years, will cease operations on 30 June 2020.
It is a surf and turf type of restaurant serving up seafood, steaks, and an extensive selection of drinks.
Popular dishes included Pelican Classics such as Snapper Pie, Old-Fashioned Crab Cakes, Ribeye Steak, and The Pelican Lobster Burger included with chunks of fresh lobster, bacon, cheese, and Old Bay-seasoned fries.
The Purple Turtle

Tian Wei Seafood

Vianney Massot Restaurant
While Vianney Massot just received its 1st Michelin star last year, it has decided to close its shutters for good.
The fine-dining restaurant at Hongkong Street was previously named “Bacchanalia”, but had a name change when Chef Vianney Massot who was previously from L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon at Resorts World Sentosa took over.
